For those of you who live in a big city like New York or L.A., the topic of this brief post will hardly come as a surprise to you. For those of you in the other 99% of the country, I wanted to announce that I am no longer a New York City movie theater virgin. I took in a showing of Half Nelson last night (review forthcoming) for the price of $10.75.
There are no discounts in this city. There are no special matinee prices. $10.75. Each and every showing. Take it or leave it.
Best part is, for that price you get to watch a movie during which, at intervals of every 15 minutes or so, the entire building and screen shake and a deep rumble competes with the soundtrack as a subway just below the seats thunders past.
Take it or leave it.

Doesn't it suck....I believe I warned you awhile back. The bright side would be that if NYU is anything like BU you get free year passes to certain film venues.
NYC theater virgin!? Please! NY'ers are wussies! Why don't you come out to my neck of the woods: 16 bucks for a regular ticket and 21 bucks for a ticket in the reserved seating area (which is every single decent seat). But on the plus side there are no subways running under the theater and you can sip on a beer while you watch the film!
Yet it's the piracy, the piracy!!, that is slowly strangling off the movie industry's revenue. So they tell us.
A couple of years ago I paid the astounding price of $10.50 to see this funky little film called Napoleon Dynamite at The Film Forum on Houston. I felt like such a snob seeing this quirky indie film. Who knew?
